Respect the VideoOut community

VideoOut is a platform designed to amplify the voices of LGBTQ people. We recognize that their stories are deeply personal and sharing them with the world requires a great deal of vulnerability and bravery. With that in mind, we expect each person who comes to VideoOut to act in a respectful manner.  In short, be nice and supportive.  Don't be mean -- that's really important.

Don't cross the line

The following rules and guidelines will help you become the kind of community member VideoOut appreciates. Don't nitpick these rules, rather bolster them with a good attitude and a kind heart. We ask that you respect the spirit of the law, and participate in a manner worthy of this community.

Nudity or sexual content

VideoOut is not for pornography or sexually explicit content. If this describes your video, even if it's a video of yourself, don't post it on VideoOut. Also, be advised that we work closely with law enforcement and we report child exploitation.

Violent or graphic content

VideoOut understands terrible things happen. Unfortunately, your story may include some details that are both tough to recount and difficult for the community to hear and see. We encourage you to truthfully share as much as you're comfortable with, but this is not the place to explain the details of violent activities or recount graphic situations. Share your whole true story, but use discretion when adding specific details to the story.  Don't encourage people to be violent or incite activity by giving graphic details.

Hateful content

VideoOut is a platform for LGBTQ people to share their stories. We don't support content that promotes or condones violence against individuals or groups based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, nationality, veteran status, or sexual orientation/gender identity, or whose primary purpose is inciting hatred on the basis of these core characteristics. Content that exists for any of the aforementioned reasons will be swiftly and permanently removed without notice. If in doubt, you can contact us directly at

Spam, misleading metadata, and scams

Everyone hates spam. Don't create misleading descriptions, tags, titles, or thumbnails in order to increase views. It's not okay to post large amounts of untargeted, unwanted or repetitive content, including comments and private messages.  We want truthful stories about coming out. Anything outside of that will most likely be considered spam on this site.

Harmful or dangerous content

Don't post videos that encourage others to do things that might cause them to get badly hurt, especially kids. Videos showing such harmful or dangerous acts will be removed.

Respect copyright. Only upload videos that you made of yourself that showcase you telling your personal coming out story. This means don't upload videos you didn't make, or use content in your videos that someone else owns the copyright to, such as music tracks, snippets of copyrighted programs, or videos made by other users.

Things like predatory behavior, stalking, threats, harassment, intimidation, invading privacy, revealing other people's personal information, and inciting others to commit violent acts or to violate the Terms of Use are taken very seriously. Anyone caught doing these things may be permanently banned from VideoOut.

We review your reports carefully

You might not like everything you see on VideoOut. Some of the content might offend you. If you think it's inappropriate, locate the flagging feature on the video and submit it for review by our VideoOut staff.

Our staff reviews flagged videos on a daily basis to determine whether they violate our Community Guidelines. When they do, we remove them. Sometimes a video doesn't violate our guidelines, but might not be appealing to everyone. These videos will be reviewed on a case by case basis. Accounts are penalized for Community Guidelines violations, and serious or repeated violations can lead to account termination. If an account is terminated, that person won't be allowed to create any new accounts.

Join in and have fun

Remember that this is your community. Each and every person on VideoOut makes the site what it is.  We are all special snowflakes, and it takes all of us to make this whole thing tick.

You may think that your story is not important enough. Maybe you think you're not funny or smart or attractive. VideoOut couldn't disagree more. You are important, and you have a place here. This is for you and by you, and we couldn't do this without you. So please, get involved and be proud of who you are! We want you here.

Let folks know what you think. Feedback is part of the experience, and when done with respect, it can be a great way to make friends, share experiences, and make your time on VideoOut richer.

Lastly, have fun with the site! We hope you'll find something new to love as you get to know VideoOut.  But most of all, we hope you'll grow to love yourself and the LGBTQ community more and more.  We're always here for you!
