VideoOut strives to operate transparently and collaboratively. We want everything we do to be by and for the community. To that end, we've written a commitment that outlines the ethics of our operations - The VideoOut Ethical Code. Feel free to let us know what you think.

Diversity Commitment

VideoOut will regularly reground itself in the community. VideoOut recognizes the strength, experience, and intelligence of all the people that make up the LGBTQ community. It’s not simply about tapping into people that look different, though we are committed to all kinds of identity diversity - it's also about gathering people who think differently too. VideoOut will always demand that every part of the LGBTQ community is included, has access to, and is offered opportunities in everything it does.

Community Focus

Whether it’s an event, program, or any other activity, VideoOut will make sure that community members are asked about their desires before, during, and after all that it does so that they are seen and heard throughout the entire planning, implementation, and post-mortem processes. Furthermore, VideoOut believes in the power of community connection and values opportunities to look community members in the eye, to cry with them, to laugh with them, and to collaboratively solve problems.

True Leadership

VideoOut leadership will exercise a necessary agility when confronted with things like anti-intellectualism or outspoken opponents to equality. VideoOut leadership will quickly respond to prejudice, including hate crimes, dangerous actions by government and corporate authorities, and problematic systems that affect the LGBTQ community. That said, leadership will strive to operate with a goal deeper than an ability to think quickly. VideoOut’s mission will serve as the North Star for every decision leadership makes, ensuring that the long game is always centered on amplifying the voices of LGBTQ people and building a better, stronger LGBTQ community with and for us all.

Personal Responsibility

The VideoOut family – staff members, board members, partners, sponsors, or stakeholders of any kind – agrees to be an ally in the fight for LGBTQ equality, equity, and liberation, taking personal responsibility that goes beyond arm-chair involvement, like sharing on social media. VideoOut will be an accomplice to community members so that they do not bear the burden of social justice alone, for until all of us are free, none of us are free. When it makes sense to the mission and the LGBTQ community, VideoOut will ask to join the stalwart organizations already hard at work in the LGBTQ movement. From business practices to protest rallies, the VideoOut family agrees to be fully engaged on a personal level in the critical community work affecting real LGBTQ people.
